Capturing the Sound, Stage, and Hallways
Expert tips on photographing trade show conferences and side events — master sound, stage lighting, and hallway dynamics for stunning results.

2. Stage Lighting: Your Best Friend and Biggest Challenge
Trade show stages are often lit with a mix of spotlights, colored LEDs, and projection screens.
To avoid overexposure or odd color casts, adjust white balance manually and shoot in RAW format for flexibility in post-processing. Focus on the interplay between presenters and visuals—slides, logos, or stage elements that define the event’s brand.
A telephoto lens can isolate gestures and expressions, while a wide-angle lens helps capture the grandeur of the stage setup and audience scale.

3. Hallways and Side Events: Where Real Connections Happen
Some of the most authentic trade show moments happen off-stage. Hallways, networking lounges, and side events reveal candid interactions and emotional exchanges that tell the human side of the event. Use natural or ambient light to preserve authenticity, and approach discreetly to avoid interrupting conversations.
These images, handshakes, laughter, spontaneous discussions often become the most shared visuals, reinforcing the event’s sense of connection and energy.
